Transferring Patterns

To transfer a pattern to paper or wood make sure the back of the design is blank. If it is not trace the design first onto a piece of tracing paper. Flip the design over to the back. Stroke over areas of the design using the side of a pencil. Make sure there is solid coverage on all areas of the design. To reduce smudging lightly wipe off excess graphite with a tissue. Flip the design back over to the original side and using either a stylus or a blunt pencil retrace over the lines to transfer the design.

Quick and Easy Light Table

To make a quick and easy light table find a large plastic storage container with a smooth bottom. Turn it so the bottom is facing up, insert a night light underneath and you've got a quick and easy light table for tracing designs.

Get Rid of Those Glue Gun Spider Webs

If your finished project is not too delicate, use a blow dryer to get rid of those fine glue strings that always occur when hot gluing. This causes the glue to melt into the project.

For more delicate work, try wrapping some masking tape around your hand with the sticky side facing out, then picking up the webs with the tape.

Painting Small Objects

Try using a clothespin to hold small objects that you are trying to paint. This way you won't be painting your fingers.

Multi-purpose Freezer Paper

Freezer paper has a variety of uses.

Painting - Use it as a disposable palette for acrylic painting. Tear off a piece and fold it in half with the shiny side up. Insert wet paper towels inside the fold, this serves two purposes, it keeps it laying flat and it keeps the palette moist. When one side is used, flip it over and use the other side.

Quilting - When ironed with the shiny side down, freezer paper will stick to fabric. This is very useful for cutting out pieces for pieced work. Cut the freezer paper out to the desired shape, iron it on to the fabric and then cut out around the freezer paper.

Fabric Painting - Since freezer paper will stick to fabric when you iron it shiny side down, you can use it as a stencil for fabric painting. This works especially well when you want to place a large shape onto the fabric. You don't have to worry as much about the paint spreading under the template because it is adhered to the fabric. Try using this technique to overlap design. For instance, say you want to place some overlapping stars onto a tee-shirt. Cut out the star shape and save the solid piece that you are removing. Stencil the first star which will be the top star first. Place the solid piece that you just cut out over the stenciled star. Next place your stencil over the first image with parts of it layered over the first star. Stencil this image, the solid piece over the first star acts as a mask so that when you stencil the second motif it appears as if it is under the first. Continue adding as many stars as you want.

I'm sure there are a multitude of other uses for freezer paper please send us your uses for it.
