Make your own rubber stamps with a soft white eraser

Soft White Eraser
Woodcarving Tools
Small Designs from a photocopier
Fingernail Polish Remover

First transfer the design to the eraser. Place the design face down on the eraser. With a cotton ball apply the fingernail polish remover to the back side of the design. The reverse image of your design will transfer on to the eraser.

The woodcarving tool is shaped like a little "V". It makes a groove shaped cuts and comes in different sizes. Remove the parts of the eraser that are not part of the design. This causes  the design to be  the raised surface of the eraser. Keep making cuts around the design until the background no longer appears when you make a stamp.

For a variation, you can cut along the design lines and have a reverse stamp effect. Have fun designing and stamping.

Don't throw those meat trays away

You can use styrofoam meat trays to create reverse effect stamps. Just place a design over the meat tray and using a blunt pencil or a stylus trace along the design lines. When you stamp with it, the design lines will remain white while the rest is inked.

Layered images create a nice 3D effect

Stamp an image onto a piece of paper and color it in.. Stamp the same image a few more times onto a separate piece of paper (or papers depending on the size of the design). Finish these images and cut them out.

Using clear silicone, apply a small dab onto the original image and layer one of the cutout images on top, you may offset it slightly if you desire. Do not press too hard when you place the images on the silicone, we are trying to leave some space between the images to give you the 3D effect. You can try stamping some more images and using only part of the design for even more 3D. For instance if you were working with a bouquet of flowers and wanted some of the flowers to stand out more, cut out just those flowers or parts of the flowers and silicone to the design. Try curling the petals a little before you silicone them in, it looks fantastic.

Homemade Rubber Stamp Ink

Powdered Clothes Dye (any color)

1/4 Teaspoon Alcohol

5 Tablespoons Glycerin

Mix dye with alcohol to the consistency of thin cream. Add glycerin. Stir until well blended. This makes enough to replenish a stamp pad several times. Pour ink over stamp pad or a foam-rubber pad that is fine grained. To make the stamp pad you will need foam rubber and a small plastic box with lid (such as a travel soap box). Cut the foam rubber to fit inside the plastic box. Spread the ink evenly with a brush or a tongue depressor.
